Abstract
A peculiar polemic with the views of M. Weber regarding the interaction of religion and culture begins the study of these important factors of human existence. Creative manifestations of cultural activity are dependent on the religious worldview foundations of the individual and the social conglomerate. The consequences of peoples' acceptance of world religions during the historical process of mankind, the formation of specific civilizational cultures under the influence of these religions are also subjects of current research. Regression in the relationship between religion and culture is also considered: when a strong developed culture assimilates a less developed one and, subsequently, partially or completely changes the religion that formed the oppressed culture. These processes are analyzed on the example of state formation in ancient Kyivan Rus and modern Ukraine.
