Personalistic Definition of History by Czeslaw Stanislaw Bartnik

Abstract

In this article, the author provides insight into philosophical and religious concept of the historical process of Czeslaw Stanislaw Bartnik, a Polish philosopher-personalist and theologian, and demonstrates the way he defines history. History, as interpreted by the philosopher in a personalistic aspect, is a dialogue between two personalities, a man and God, whose wills form and create it. The Polish personalist considers historical process as the dynamics of existence and inward structure, aimed at the personality. He believes that a personality is a scheme and category of history, and history is a universal model of human existence. The thinker observes the crux of history in three planes: individual, social and universal. Individual and social ones are interdependent and form a universal essence of history.
