Анотація
Зародження адвентистської церкви було основане на тлумаченнях апокаліптичних книг Біблії. Помітну роль в інтерпретації пророцтв відігравала Еллен Уайт, одна з співзасновників церкви Адвентистів сьомого дня. В цій статті я висвітлюю її тлумачення одного з самих спірних уривків книги Обʼявлення – тринадцятий розділ. Я показую, що Еллен Уайт дотримувалася історичного герменевтичного підходу та інтерпретувала звіра із моря як символ папства, а звіра із землі як символ протестантської Америки. Уайт стверджувала, що образ звіра буде окремою владою, союзом церкви і держави в США, свого роду копією папства. Відновлення влади папства та його союз з протестантизмом призведе до втрати релігійної свободи та переслідувань. Стаття висвітлює, що знак звіра на думку Елен Уайт символізує святкування неділі – фальшивої та ідольської суботи. Цей духовний знак стосується майбутньої есхатологічної духовної битви, яка відбудеться щодо питання поклоніння і вірності Божим заповідям.
