Abstract

In the conditions of social turbulence that characterize the development of global civilization in the last decade, democratization processes take various, unpredictable forms. This actualizes the socio-philosophical reflection on new formats, specifications and democratization trends in different countries. Against the Ukrainian background, the problematic aspects of democratization in the space of social turbulence are especially evident. The article analyzes the importance of democratization of science for the general implementation of democratic and legal principles in the state-building process of a national nature. It is emphasized that the democratization of science continues the democratization of society and is an activity that in principle presupposes and actually promotes democratic practices in a broader social context. It is concluded that democratization implies a gradual transition from undemocratic forms and methods of governance and organization of all spheres of public life, including science, to democracy, the introduction of democratic institutions, practices and values. The need for democratization of science is caused not only by the factor of long-term development of domestic science in conditions of first totalitarianism, then democratic transit, but because of the huge impact of research results on public life. The democratization of science is necessary for the progressive development of science itself and all the spheres in which it affects, as well as for improving the quality of democracy and accelerating the democratization of society.
