Abstract
The article is dedicated to philosophical analysis of the notions of humanism and social ideal and the historical development of their consideration from the position of defining the value potential of contemporary sport. The basic characteristic of modern humanism is, in our opinion, its focus on the positive in the recognition of human negativity that require control and limitation. Humanism always involves the care of a particular real person, the creation of conditions to meet society's needs, the implementation of individual abilities, creative expression and the pursuit of ever more perfect way of life – that is the ideal. The philosophical category of «ideal» – a phenomenon phenomenal, ambiguous, diverse, but generally, often acts as a personal characteristic that reflects integrity, commitment, human activity and society. Sport is the consolidation of public forces, aimed at the transformation of society and the individual as the only one of its kind and the specific field of activity with a deep humanistic potential. The author came to the conclusion that the ideas that are being developed in areas such as the theory of physical culture and sports, psychology, history, sociology and philosophy of the sport may enhance scientists contribute to the creation of modern axiological models of sports activities, based on the ideals of humanism.
