Abstract
In this article, the analyze of the term dhyāna is conducted. The changes that the concept underwent during the Ṛgveda and Upaniṣad periods are analyzed. Fifteen excerpts from different texts have been analyzed, where this term is used. The conclusions show its transformation from the outwardly thought that unites a human with the metaphysical world in the Ṛgveda to the concrete practice in the Upaniṣad necessary for intrapsychic transformation and achievement of esoteric understanding.
