Abstract

The article considers the problem of human dignity during the Enlightenment (on the example of Kant's philosophy) in the context of modern philosophical discourse of the problem. It is noted that the further development of society forms a demand for a legal socially-oriented state, which provides and ensures broad rights and freedoms for all citizens (regardless of nationality, religion, culture, wealth), which eventually becomes an important basis for understanding and human dignity. It is about the right of a citizen to express his opinion and civil position and the task of the government to ensure a wide range of rights and freedoms, which are defined by Kant as moral (natural). That is why the appeal of modern philosophers and researchers to the philosophy of I. Kant, his interpretation of human nature, its rights and freedoms, due to a certain similarity of the Enlightenment and the modern stage of society. This similarity was embodied in a number of factors that created a new picture of the world, namely: radical changes in the political, social, and economic system; traditional human existence and the world of life, the speed and globalism of modern transformations not only in the productive spheres, but also in socio-domestic, moral-ethical and socio-political relations. It is emphasized that these processes are embodied in moral (natural) and administrative law and significantly affect the freedoms and equality of all members of society; independence of actions of each member of the community as a citizen; lack of paternalism at the level of citizen-society-government relations. Thus, the ethical and legal concept of human dignity presented by I. Kant finds understanding and application in the concepts of argumentative and ecological ethics, ethics of responsibility, aspiration to the creation of such power structures when public consensus is reached on condition of reasoned dialogue of all members and collective responsibility for further actions. And the holistic reconstruction of Kant's reflections on man, his dignity and freedom, testifies to the organic belonging of Ukrainian philosophy to the European intellectual and philosophical context.
