Abstract

Since the phenomenon, discourse and doctrine of the “Russian world” has long been the subject of many historical, political, sociological studies, philosophical analysis is extremely relevant, especially given that this doctrine is primarily an ideological construct that shapes out the worldview, ideas, values, impacts on the individual and social worldview, patterns of thinking, of discourse, motivate to specific actions, emotions, mass stereotypes, beliefs, prejudices. Analysis of the doctrine of the “Russian world” in the perspective of the ideas it contains circulating in public space is the main subject of study of this doctrine, while the subject of this article is the analysis of methodological issues that arise during such research. The article analyzes the problems of disciplinary order, defining the object of research (what is “Russian world”), identifies different types of doctrine, certain models and techniques of legitimation of the project (making the doctrine) and its propaganda. The author notes the problem of untranslability of the term “Russian world”, compares it with Western analogous constructs of the era of imperialism. Especially notes the need for a philosophical approach, given the analytical definition of philosophy as an enterprise of constructing and assessing categorial systems, which implicitly contains the primate of logic and argumentation within philosophy. Then, Russian World is studied as a doctrine i.e. conceptual ideological system. Such study of Russian world is to be placed within a framework of contemporary postcolonial studies, Nationalism Studies and studies on totalitarianism and genocide, given that most of these events took place in “bloody lands” (Snyder’s notion) part of which is territory of Russian state formations, and contemporary struggle between Russia and Ukraine can be explained and shown only within a broader scope of evolving Russian World as political, cultural and religious concept.
