The development path of modern society is focused on the constant growth of production and consumption of natural resources that results in the global ecological crisis, which is one of the sources of stress for modern people. It is shown that the development of the new relationship between a man, machines, and the nature is one of the tasks of modern social work. The urgency of this topic is predetermined by the global nature of the environmental issue and the expansion of the ecological knowledge on modern social work. It is also predetermined by the need to develop purpose-in-life value orientations, in particular, the responsible and humane attitude to both nature and man. The article discloses that the social workers have addressed to the ecological theory mainly because of the vital necessity when they had focused their attention on the problem of interaction of a man with the natural environment. Most of the social theories were focusing on an individual, considering the nature as only the environment where a man carries out his life activities. But the ecological theory emphasizes both the values of the environment and its interactions with a man, providing that a man changes the natural environment through his practical activities, and in turn, the environment has a positive effect on people. In view of this, the author proves the need to develop fundamentally new approaches to social work activities, in particular, the ecological one. The article analyses the socio-philosophical retrospective of the ecological factor in social work. It should not only inform about the state of affairs but also teach the social workers to use the effective means of counteracting environmental and crisis phenomena. These issues are aimed at making social work more socio-human orientated, in particular through the ecological knowledge, which, in the process of social work, would be guided by the absolute value of nature. Therefore, social work will thrive if it develops on the principles of the philosophy of education and takes into account the interests of an individual as a natural being.
