Abstract
This article is devoted to the up-to-date problem of humanization of education in the context of which the author’s research interest is distance education as an objective phenomenon of modern educational sphere. The purpose of the article is to outline the humanistic potential of distance education. In this regard, the emphasis is upon social and philosophical understanding of the defining essential-and-attributive characteristics of distance education. The author substantiates the statement about humanistic potential of distance education, that is revealed in a fundamentally different way than previous, approach to human and its development, namely in ensuring self-fulfillment of an individuality in all its essential and unique dimensions.
